Boyfriends first annual golf weekend

This time of the year is always very busy for me. There is the usual spring cleaning of the house inside and out. And, the planting of the gardens! And, all the yard work! This year I have the added challenges of working on this website, (yes, although you may not realize it, I really do work on it all the time). And, this past weekend, the additional challenge of entertaining hubby’s boyfriends for their first annual long weekend of golf!

I had an absolutely crazy weekend! Have you ever been so incredibly swamped with things to do that you lost your focus because you were so overwhelmed? That was my weekend. I sped around the house and gardens and grocery store and kitchen stove without a good plan of action which made the tasks so much more difficult and a little dangerous, too!

I have always loved to entertain. And, I usually have a great plan laid out and therefore have so much fun. But, I never quite found my rhythm last weekend. So, it was filled with tiny disasters!

While at the grocery store, I had to backtrack down aisles I had already been in. While rushing to put groceries away, I knocked a glass bowl to the floor, dumping its contents of homemade croutons for that evening’s Caeser salad and breaking the bowl. I nicked my finger cutting fresh roses without wearing gloves. I dumped part of the contents of the morning’s used coffee grounds all around the garbage can and on the floor and kicked over a bowl of cat food. I ended up with several bumped knees, stubbed toes and bruised shoulders while rushing around corners on my way to do other tasks.

Some of the work that Brian would have helped with was now all mine to do, since he was busy doing his guy thing for the weekend.

So, I didn’t handle the weekend as well as I could have.  But, I did get through it and I am not dead!  Everyone had a lovely time. What hubby said late Sunday night, after everyone was gone, was, “Wow! Thank you so much honey, for all your hard work to make the weekend great.”

Yeah, that made it worth it! Wooooo Hooooo!

  1. I can’t wait for my sister friends to come to my house in August. I haven’t gone to Idlewild since way back in my school days. I haven’t been to Kennywood (5 mins. from my house) since Kara was in a cheerleading championship back in high school around 1995 or ’96. I’m not big on rides but I love to watch people. I’ll look into other exciting things Pittsburgh has to offer for our sister vacation.!

  2. Boyfriends – is that a South Carolina expression for Guy friends? Because other connotations immediately spring to mind for me. “Girlfriends,” yes, but I’ve never heard a man saying “I’m going out with my boyfriends” – usually, it’s “I’m going out with the guys.”

But then I’m on a linguistic thing right now!

    Glad you survived the weekend.

    • Graham, me thinks, young people use the term boyfriend these days. I’m not really sure, though. I thought it sounded good – implying that hubby finally got to have a weekend with his guy friends, just like I do at least twice every year – once with my sister girlfriends and second, with my daughter girlfriend!

    • Carrie, yes! Where are we going to go this year? We had such a blast last year in St. Augustine! Except that we did miss the Fountain of Youth! (And, I really should have gone there!)

      • And, of course don’t forget your sister and brother-in-law. You’re the best when it comes to entertaining. Cin always was a great entertainer. She opens her arms with a welcome gift of love.

PS – so do you Pam.

        • Bonnie, Well, thanks, sis! And, yes, we have a good time wherever we go! I can’t wait for our get together this year! I have an upcoming blog about Idlewild Park. I think I want to go there this August during Sister Vacation! I’m putting it on my bucket list! That way, you all will have to go with me! We have to ride the roller coaster! 😉
