I got a new pair of house shoes a few days ago. They’re called Minnetonka Moccasins.
Minnetonka. Loosely interpreted as “Great Water.” Located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. Near Lake Minnetonka and Minnehaha Creek. First settled by Dakotah and Ojibway Indians.
Really cool moccasins.
Not surprised, but definitely disappointed.
I live in Minnesota and there is a business called, Itasca Leathergoods, based in Lake George, MN. They sell handmade USA moccasins, (made in Lake George). They are extremely well constructed. I know they use elk and buffalo hides and if you have a tricky foot/size they’ll make you a pair just for your feet and deliver it to you in two weeks! Beautiful colors and combos too…which you can choose how you want the moccasin constructed.
Thanks, Jan! I found their website (http://www.itascamoccasin.com/). It advertises, “Unlike the company with the Minnesota-sounding name, our Moccasins and leather goods are actually made in the USA in Minnesota!” Love it!
Thanks for the laugh Cindy. I’m want to know if they get back to you on facebook!
I hope they do! I really like my shoes!
So flippin’ funny!
However, it might be getting not as funny. A few minutes ago, I found Minnetonka Moccasin on Facebook, so I asked them why MY box, said, “Made in China.” A few minutes later, my message was deleted from their page, so I sent it again. I’m still waiting for a response!
Now it’s just getting sad….
I was shopping at Kohl’s department store last year sometime and thought I’d look at where the clothing was made. I could not find one that was made in the good ole USA. China, Japan, Indonesia, Cambodia, India were on most of the labels and these were major brand names. No wonder so many americans are out of work.
And, I guess they were a bit more pricey than my last pair of no-name brand ’cause they came over on a slow boat…
OMG. That is a hoot!
By the shores of Gitchee Gumee – NOT!
